Yoga Is For Everybody? Not Quite...

This 2-minute quiz shows you if yoga is for you. Or what you should do instead.

4 Cool Ways To Do Yoga Without A Mat

Types of Yoga | Yoga

Ever wondered whether yoga, which is usually done on a mat, could possibly be done on other flat–and not-so-flat–surfaces? Water, for instance. Yes, water!

Well, it turns out that yes, you could do yoga elsewhere–water included! We have compiled four awesome ways to strike poses off the mat while getting an incredibly refreshing yoga experience. Here they are…

Paddleboard Yoga

Executing yoga postures on a flat, static surface is challenging enough. Why do it on a moving object afloat on water? One reason: it is a ton load of fun.

Sure, you may spend less time holding your poses than wading in the water, getting back on your Paddleboard, but once you get the hang of it just imagine your sense of accomplishment–and the fun you'll start having while you're at it.

Acro Yoga

Partner yoga has its benefits, but this particular type of partner yoga also has its thrill. In Acro Yoga, you get to do your poses while being held up by a friend i.e. partner. It's an interesting, challenging workout that's sure to connect you both on a level of mutual zen – a great, productive way to bond with your yoga pal!

Water Yoga

Now there's an option that excuses you to stay in the water. In Water Yoga, you don't have to worry so much about the pull of gravity, which allows you to exert yourself in ways that challenges you beyond your ability, but also gives you room to tumble around in the water and enjoy its cool temperature. Think of it as a yoga class-cum-water spa retreat. We just may go on one ourselves.

Anti-gravity Yoga / Aerial Yoga

What makes Anti-gravity Yoga different from Aerial Yoga is that, for the entire duration of the session, you are suspended in mid-air by a fabric that is bolted to the ceiling, instead of snaking up and down one.

This may not be too ideal for those with a fear of heights, but for the bored, curious, and adventurous, Anti-gravity Yoga should be right up your corner. Also, this is not to scare you away, but to let you know that you actually do get suspended in the air – which is all part of the fun.

Feeling all magical, a la Cirque du Soleil? You’d probably enjoy Anti-gravity Yoga with all the fabrics and dangling involved. Apparently, doing yoga while suspended in mid-air helps better align your postures and gives you a freer, more calmed feeling than doing so planted on the ground.
