Yoga Is For Everybody? Not Quite...

This 2-minute quiz shows you if yoga is for you. Or what you should do instead.

Happiness Is Your Birthright

Lifestyle | Love

It may seem obvious and trite to you, but many people haven’t stopped to consider that happiness is their birthright. I mean really, truly consider the fact that happiness is a basic human right.

You don’t have to earn happiness or prove your worthiness; you are worthy and you deserve to be happy right here, right now, just as you are, simply because you were born into being.

The Essence of Our Existence

In the Toltec wisdom book The Mastery of Love, Don Miguel Ruiz explains, “That is the reason you are here: To play and have fun. We are born with the right to be happy, with the right to enjoy life.”

Yoga teaches us that joy is our basic condition, our base level of being—the very essence of our existence.

Misaligning from Our True Nature

We experience pain when we are not in alignment with who we truly are; just like you experience pain in your knee when your body is physically out of alignment.

Pain is necessary feedback that presents us with an opportunity to search within and realign with our hearts.

So why do we misalign to begin with? Why do we experience ourselves as something other than our true joyous nature?

For starters, we misalign because we are free to choose. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama is often quoted for saying “happiness is a choice from within.” And I happen to agree with him.

That’s not to say that we choose to suffer (although some of us do), or that we consciously decide to make choices that aren’t in alignment with who we are. We misalign and make unconscious decisions when we are not living from our place of true authenticity.

When we disconnect from who we are in our hearts, we merely don’t make the healthiest and highest choices for ourselves; thus, we experience pain.

Yoga is the invitation to get to know yourself more intimately, to dive deep into your own heart and align with your desires, intuition, and truth—to find and reconnect with your most personal and most genuine happiness.
