It can be challenging to find your way to the real state of meditation. There are many distractions and thoughts that prevent us from disconnecting from our busy lives and find our inner self. Here are seven meditation tips in the form of sutras that will help you improve your practice.
1. The Sutra of Intelligence
More than often, we are filled up with too many opinions, which mostly makes us feel more intelligent. This intelligence is an ego booster and acts as a big obstacle in your meditation experience. The Upanishads have stated that being intelligent is more dangerous than being ignorant. The light of meditation can easily enter into consciousness of an ignorant soul. But intelligent or highly read people can built big walls of information around themselves. These walls keep any light from going through. So, the Sutra of Intelligence simply tells you not to let your intelligence interfere with the cosmic wisdom.
2.The Sutra of Enlightenment
Most people relate enlightenment with some sort of super power and see enlightenment as some mystic phenomenon. However, enlightenment simply means that you will become empty enough to embrace the infinite cosmic truth in you. It means that you will surrender your ego to the Godliness nurturing in you. The Sutra of Enlightenment encourages the manifestation of emptiness in you. Create a space so empty that it paves way for a divine soul.
3. The Sutra of Happiness
We tend to get attracted to meditation when we are going through troubles in life. However, the best moment to dive into meditation is when we are full of happiness. You are much more able to receive abundant energy from the universe when you are joyful. The state of sadness won’t let you be self aware. Witness your sadness simply the way it is and let it go. When you feel sadness is slowly waving away, take time to shift yourself in the zone of meditation.
4. The Sutra of Breathing
The cycle of conscious breathing plays a very important role in meditation. By practicing the simple formula of I-H-E (inhale-hold-exhale) you will encounter a deep peace. The law of breathing tells you to inhale your breath, hold it for few seconds effortlessly, and then exhale within yourself through the nostrils. When you hold your breath, make sure you are being in the present moment. The more light you feel in this moment of hold, the more power you will generate in your inner self. Don’t use any effort to do this step. Just let it happen.
5. The Sutra of Thoughts
The sutra of thoughts states the importance of being thoughtless. This can happen when you initiate your meditation by just witnessing your thoughts. Simply be the observer of your thoughts. Don’t identify yourself with any of your thoughts, whether they are happy or sad. Practice being neutral to both happiness and sadness. Watch your thoughts like a movie. Don’t react to any of the scenes you see. Just let the movie pass by. Know that it all doesn’t exist in reality. What exist is you. It is just pure awareness.
6. The Sutra of Intention
Intention is the first step of everything. It’s the fuel that our dreams are made up of. Whenever we do anything in life, it starts with an intention. Your intention will manifest your thoughts into reality. It’s important to create the right intention in mind. Your intention could be a personal, professional, or spiritual one. A meditation without an intention is no less than a journey without a map. Before any meditation, take a moment to create an intention. Ask yourself the reasons for which you are doing your meditation.
7. The Sutra of Time
Meditation transcends you beyond space and time. When you meditate, shift your self into a no-time zone. Don’t set timers or alarms to bother you in the blissful silence. You will automatically come back to awareness after a while. There is no standard time duration for meditation. However, you could sit for a minimum of 24 minutes, devoting one minute for the 24 hours of the day. Your mind clock will automatically respond once 24 minutes are over.
