3 Must-Try Food and Cocktail Recipes - Presented by TY KU Sake

If you're anything like me, after an awesome, sweaty yoga class, you love a good meal with a glass of wine. But recently, I started looking for something new to go with my after-yoga meal. That’s when I found sake.

Sake is a great alternative to wine, and can help you unwind without undoing the work you put in on your mat. It’s also very easy to pair with food. So much so, that it’s very difficult to mispair. Which makes it even better in my book.

Food and Cocktail Sake Recipes

The next time you're hosting an Après Yoga (after yoga) dinner party for you and your friends from the studio, or are just looking for a good meal and nice cocktail to relax with after yoga class while watching Netflix, give these recipes a shot.

1. Warm Lentil Salad with Grapes, Feta, and Mint

Mediterranean food is probably not the obvious choice to pair with sake. However, it works when you treat the sake just like you would a white wine. Stick it in the fridge when you get home from class, and by the time you're ready to eat, it'll be nice and chilled and ready to be served.

Tip: Serve this lentil salad either hot or cold on a bed of spinach, and pair it with TY KU Silver or Black sake chilled in a wine glass (not hot!), and you’re all set.

*Serves 4, takes 30 minutes or less

Ingredients:

  • 3 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 leeks, white and light green parts thinly sliced (1 ¾ cups)
  • 2 Tbsp. sherry vinegar
  • 2 tsp. whole-grain mustard
  • 1 17.6-oz. pkg. cooked lentils, gently broken apart, or 2 cups cooked lentils
  • 1 ½ cups red grapes, halved
  • ¼ cup chopped roasted pistachios
  • 3 Tbsp. finely chopped mint
  • 3 Tbsp. finely chopped parsley
  • ¼ cup crumbled feta

1. Heat oil in skillet over medium heat. Add leeks, and cook for 7 to 9 minutes, or until tender and translucent, stirring often. Remove from heat, and stir in sherry vinegar and mustard.

2. Combine lentils, leek mixture, grapes, pistachios, mint, and parsley in large bowl. Season with salt and pepper, if desired, and top with feta.

2. Sake & Tonic

I can never resist a good cocktail, especially on a Friday night with my friends. My go-to is always a Gin & Tonic, and my new favorite way to have it is with cucumber instead of lime. So why not try it with sake?

Tip: This Sake & Tonic with TY KU Cucumber sake fits all my requirements for an end-of-day cocktail—easy, delicious, and perfect.

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz. TY KU Cucumber sake
  • 4 oz. Tonic water
  • Cucumber slices
  • Ice

Mix ice, sake, and tonic together in a glass (stirred, not shaken!), and garnish with cucumber slices. And that’s it! Just add friends, and you're ready to go!

3. Wasabi Mary

Bloody Marys and brunch is the peanut butter and jelly of Sunday mornings. The next time you feel like a post-yoga brunch, serve up this sake-fied variation of the classic drink, and you'll be the talk of your studio.

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts TY KU Silver sake
  • 3 parts tomato juice
  • 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 dashes Tabasco
  • a pinch of wasabi
  • 1/4 part fresh lemon juice
  • pinch of salt & pepper

Stir all ingredients in mixing glass with ice. Strain, pour into a tall glass with fresh ice, garnish with celery, and enjoy!
