Finding Your Inner Self In 4 Simple Steps

Healing | Health

There have been nights I lay awake for hours imagining what my life would be like if all my problems were gone. If I had no debt, all the education I could ever need or want, a full up-to-date wardrobe, the perfect hair, body, and smile; how my life would be so easy. I could wake up every morning feeling like I am on top of the world, and never have to feel tired or stressed. Life would be perfect…or would it? Finding your inner self is something that many people struggle with. Once you find it, your life can be the best it has ever been. The importance of knowing your inner self is that it brings you balance as well as peace in your day-to-day life. Who wouldn’t want that?

1. Remembering Who You Are

The first thing to do to understand what makes you special is to look at what you are on the inside and not on the outside. Let go of the need to be loved by everyone, and make a list of your values, goals, morals, and beliefs. The inner you is made up of who you are on the inside, from what makes you sad to what makes you happy. Becoming in-tuned to your inner self is vital to being happy.

2. Discover Where You Are Today

Once you have a good list made, set it aside and sketch up a simple timeline of your life. Highlight the highs and the lows, and identify big turning points. Mark on the side any difference you see in where you followed your list of values and morals, and where you did not. You will also be able to see exactly where you sit today.

3. Realize Where to go From Here

With your timeline you can clearly see what needs to be done to find balance with the inner you again. Start over with a clean slate. Changes can be made from something as simple as buying more organic foods, to something as complex as to changing your career. Learn to rely on yourself. As hard or easy as your next steps may be, you can constantly remind yourself by sticking with the inner you and driving power from there through reflection and meditation. Immerse yourself in solitude.

4. Powering Your Meditation

When you meditate you can power yourself by clearing your mind and concentrating on the fact that you are meditating to hone in on your inner self. Imagine your life as it is, and as it could be if you follow your inner self versus your outer self. Making a decision based on who you are and not based on who you could be. Here's a guide on how to get started with meditation, in case you need a little bit of help.

Powering my meditation this way, I now lie in bed at night, and imagine my life just how it is. I see myself making decisions based on who I am, and I can drift off to sleep never wanting more because I know there is no one else in the world that will ever be a better me.
