Yoga Is For Everybody? Not Quite...

This 2-minute quiz shows you if yoga is for you. Or what you should do instead.

5 Reasons to Go Vegan Now

Happiness | Lifestyle

As someone who practices yoga, you may already be vegan, or if you're not, you might be considering the switch. If you're on the fence about whether to go full-on plant-based diet or not, this may help you to make up your mind.

Here are 5 reasons to go vegan — now!

1. You Will Feel Fantastic

It’s no secret that a plant-based diet is good for you. Taking that extra step to eliminate animal products — for good — will make you look and feel absolutely fantastic! And who doesn’t want to be ab-fab and glamorous?

Think about all the energy and work your body has to do to get rid of those meats you eat. Yuck!

Foods like dark green leafy kale, protein-rich quinoa, and sprouted mung beans are easy to digest, full of antioxidants, minerals, and protein, and leave you feeling fresh and energetic. Trade that steak for tempeh!

2. The Planet Will Thank You

Have you read the news lately? Word on the street is that we are in the middle of a crisis. A crisis to our planet, that is. The more meat and dairy we consume, the worse off Mother Earth becomes.

Did you know it takes a tremendous amount of land, produce, and greenhouse gasses to raise the livestock we use to put on our plates? The meat industry is downright damaging. It seems vacuous since we can get all the nutrition we need from our garden. The fact is that the meat industry is ruining our home in order to produce a product that is not sustainable to human life.

Take the next step in doing something for the earth — go vegan! Your body, and the world, will thank you.

3. You Will Smell Better

Elimination of body waste (poop, pee, sweat, skin cells, mucosal lining) is a direct reflection of what you put in your body. Feed your face with waste, and your waste will smell like, well, you know. Not to mention bad B.O. and bad breath.

Animal protein creates an acidic environment in our blood and tissues. This can alter the healthy relationship between our bodies and the bacteria that lives on our bodies, which is everywhere, by the way. An imbalance of healthy bacteria causes crazy stuff — yeast infections, skin rashes, dandruff, acne, gastro-esophageal reflux, stomach problems, and sometimes more serious infections.

At the other end of the spectrum is the alkalinity of good, old greens. The more the better!

Replacing acidic meats, cheeses, sugars, and starches with alkalizing veggies, fruits, nuts, and legumes creates a healthy pH balance in your blood and tissues. But don’t just take my word for it, try it for a month.

If (after a hefty amount of detoxing) you don’t smell better, you can call me crazy.

4. Bye-Bye Inner Thighs

That’s right; a vegan diet without the animal fats and calorie-laden cheese is good news for your tush!

When the fats you consume come from healthy sources — creamy avocados, crunchy raw nuts, and rich-in-Omega oils — your heart (and waistline) will thank you. No more cellulite and beer-gut. Yay!

5. The Yogis Were Onto Something

You check out this blog regularly because you are a lover of yoga. Yes, Hot Vinyasa class makes you feel amazing and sexy. But what about the wisdom behind the backbends?

Looking through yoga history at all the bearded gurus, a few things are for certain: meditation quiets the mind. Asana practice keeps the body strong and flexible. A vegan diet is sustainable, wise, and healthy. The proof is in the pancake.

There is a lot of debate out there about whether or not a "true" yogi can eat meat, binge on sugar, and consume coffee and alcohol. I don’t have the answer. But I can attest from experience that a diet that is sattvic (and vegan), which includes making food choices that are non-harmful to your body and the environment is refreshing to my conscious as well as my cells.

My inner yogi is glowing because of it, and yours will too.
