5 Signs You Need A Home Yoga Practice

Sometimes we wonder whether to hit up our local yoga studio or stay at home for some home-made yoga. Here are some signs to look out for and when to know it’s time to stay in for your yoga practice:

1. You Often Stray From What The Teacher Is Doing

If you find yourself trying to kick in to handstand while the teacher has everyone slowly moving in and out of a cat/cow sequence, it’s probably time to consider maintaining a home practice. Not only is it disrespectful to the instructor, but highly distracting to your fellow yogis. At home, you can always do your favorite poses without worrying about anyone else. Stick to your home practice when you’re feeling creative!

2. You Keep Odd Schedules

Working nights or very early morning hours will usually mean that your local studio doesn’t have class offerings for you. The good news is that you don’t need a fancy studio to get your yoga on! Stick to your home practice with your favorite online teacher and don’t let that pesky schedule keep you from your mat.

3. You’re Tied To Your House

Working from home - whether you’re a stay-at-home Mom or Dad or you just work from your home office, taking a break for yoga is a great way to burn off any lingering stress from the rest of the day. Plus, you can still fit your yoga in without having to invest the time it takes to get ready, drive to your studio, take class, drive home, and get settled back into your day. Home practice to the rescue!

4. If You’re On A Strict Budget

Let’s face it: having to shell out over $120 per month can be a big commitment, and a home practice doesn’t have to cost you anything! At worst, it can cost a few bucks for a yoga mat. Keep your hard-earned cash and practice with some friends for free instead.

5. Your Local Studio Is Overcrowded

There’s a fine line between studios that are full enough to give you that extra energy boost from friends, and those that are so full you’re sharing sweat with the person next to you. Depending on the city you’re in, yoga classes can draw enormous crowds, which can be a turnoff for a lot of people. Don’t let that keep you from practicing. Do your yoga from the comfort of your own home and take up all the space you want!
