Yoga is… The place where the mind, body and spirit meet.

What Do You Love Most About Yoga?

The practice of yoga in and of itself has endless benefits. For me, yoga has been a place of solace - either through the physical practice of asana on my mat, or through studying and discussing the guiding principles found in the yoga sutras and other works by great yogis and yoginis. For me, this practice of yoga has united me with myself—it has drawn the scattered parts of my mind, body and spirit back into a unified expression.

I love how yoga is for everyone, and that it has something to offer all who call upon it, depending upon their needs and what they are currently seeking.

How Has Yoga Changed Your Life, Personality And Physique?

Yoga has changed everything! I come from a history of chronically low self-esteem and health issues ranging from stomach aches, acne, hormonal imbalances and anorexia. Yoga has seen me through all of these things, and has help to transform me into the self loving being that I am today. Yoga has taken me from the awkward teen with no sense of who she was to the young adult who is thriving and living on purpose. I can honestly say that I do not think I would be living today had I not found yoga.

What Everyday Thing Did You Get Better At Because Of Yoga?

I would say the most important 'every day' thing that got better due to yoga was my thought patterns. The constant tuning in and assessing what I was thinking and feeling dramatically changed the way I think about myself and the world around me. I learned that I have control over the 'tape' that plays in my head, and that I can choose to make my thoughts work for me or against me.

How Do You Keep Your Yoga Practice Interesting And Challenging?

Nowadays, my practice tends to transform itself. I used to go to classes or watch yoga classes online whenever I felt a rut coming on, but now my asana practice tends to mould itself without my needing to do anything about it! It is amazing what can happen when you allow yoga to move you, rather than the other way around.

What Book, Website Or Person Inspires You?

Kino MacGregor is certainly a huge inspiration for me. Her dedication, light hearted humour, and 'real-ness' make her someone I have followed for years and someone I will continue to follow for years to come. It is inspiring to know that she came to yoga with no physical practices in her background, and how her life has transformed through her practice. My other biggest inspiration is a teacher I met in Vancouver called Reno. He has the biggest heart of any yogi I have ever met, and his strong sense of self inspire me to tune in daily. He is a true Yogi in my opinion, and you can check him out on his Facebook.

What Do You Listen To While You Do Yoga?

My thoughts and my breath. I tend to do my practice in the early morning before anyone else in my home wakes up. This means I get to listen to the early sounds of the day while I tune in.

What’s The Best Advice You’ve Ever Received?

Start a journal. Writing about my experiences and processing my life experiences with words has been the absolute best thing I have ever gotten into the practice of doing.
