5-Minute Breath Awareness To Help You Relax And De-Stress (VIDEO)

Health | Stress

I’m going to share a little secret with you guys: relaxing and de-stressing is SO much easier and far more simple than you think.

I know I know, in the heat of the moment, when your head is spinning and your thoughts are frantic and racing like they’re on a Formula 1 circuit, the words calm, quiet and peace might seem well beyond reach. I can assure you they’re not, you just have to take the right action.

When the mind is racing, the most challenging thing you can do is try to stop it. Instead, it needs to be given something else to focus on, something that will help sloooooooooow it down.

The physical repercussions of stress can be anything from muscular tension, to digestive difficulties, high blood pressure and illness, so it’s important to not only slow down the mind, but also to release and let go of stress that may have accumulated in both the mind and the body.

Working With The Breath

Through my training as a yoga teacher and my experience with prolonged stress, the most effective tool I’ve found to relax and let go is working with the breath. Why?

  1. Simple breath awareness gives the mind something to focus on which helps to slow it down.
  2. Breathing techniques can alter our physiology, so learning to breathe the right way can actually create a more calm and relaxed internal state.

So without further ado, please watch the video above for a really simple technique that I frequently use in my yoga classes and also in my personal life. It really does create a more relaxed internal environment for both my students and myself. I hope you enjoy it!

Try it out and let us know in the comments section how you felt afterwards!
